Arrived at South Georgia State Library a little early this morning because tomorrow I need to leave early to go meet my new doctor in Douglas. Having a chronic condition makes for having to find a cure provider very important, so I got this appointment back before I got the internship and I had to wait about six weeks to get in, can not miss my appointment. I went to Yolanda (circulation ) to find out if we would be able to work on removing the weeded books from last week from the catalog, well she informed me that the books had already been removed because the deadline for the project was July 1st and library staff wanted to be sure to get all the weeded books removed. Oh well, guess I will wait for another opportunity to learn the Voyager system. Ms. Vickers tells me that she is having a meeting with a student who is interested in a career in librarianship, she asks if I could come in and share some of my experiences with the young lady. I tell I would be glad to and she tells me she will call me when the time arrives. So I head back to the reference desk, check my email and get out another CHOICE book and start going through it looking for new book selections for the collection. In the meantime I have had several of my speech students come in today is the day the final draft of their informative speeches are due and they will begin giving their speeches today. I answer last minute questions on outlines and citations.I get most of the way through and Ms. Vickers calls. I tell the students working that I will be in the back with Ms. Vickers if they need further assistance. I am excited to talk with this student about being a librarian. She is an English major, who will transfer to Valdosta State this fall, she knows she wants to pursue a graduate degree and wonders about the future outlook in the field of librarianship. We spend about an hour and a half talking about how the field is changing and how it may seem that there is no opportunity on the contrary all the changes are leading to some great new needs and opportunities. Overall, I think Ms. Vickers and I gave great insight and maybe this young lady will pursue a library degree. Back to work, the business books are weeded from the shelves, now Ms. Vickers has presented me with a printout of all the ebooks in the business collection. I am to go through those books that are marked weed and make sure they are in the system and decide if they need to be weeded or if they still may offer some pertinent information that may be used by patrons. This is a thick list of books, but luckily the business department head split the list up among all the business professors so it seems the list is in small enough chunks that it may not be that hard to get through. The task seems little daunting. Got through the first list today.

Arrived early again today, went to the reference desk and started on the ebook list. Worked all morning on the ebook list, got through all the lists except the one where the faculty member said weed them all. Right before I left at 1:00pm, had meeting with Ms. Vickers, The Bill of Rights classes did not make for the summer so I will not be teaching any other library instructions classes. We discussed looking over a couple of the library LibGuides and offering some suggestions of sources to be added to them. The ones I will look at are: Computer Science, Communications and Public Speaking, and the Bill of Rights guides.

Worked on the last list of business ebooks, and got that finished today. the list will be sent to the Waycross campus library so that they may add any ebooks they want to keep, then we will start deleting the others from the library catalog. I did start looking at the LibGuides. I was trying to determine a good strategy for making my suggestions. I have decided to copy and paste citations from the library catalog in a word document. Ms. Vickers says if time allows she and I my try to add these resources to the LibGuides ourselves, but if not we will send them to the Waycross campus library where the librarian that does LIbGuides will add the resources to the pages. I am learning so many things I did not know about in the academic library. I am looking forward to the last four weeks of this internship and the other projects in which I may get to participate.
